What we can learn from McDonalds
If you ever get the chance to watch the movie “Founder” about the beginnings of McDonald’s organisation, I highly recommend it.
I particularly like the part where they realise they’re not in the business of hamburgers or fast foods but in fact in the business of property.

But that’s for another day.
Whenever we did a road trip as a family when my children were younger, no doubt we would stop at McDonald’s – sometimes if nothing more than just to use the clean toilets.
And every time we would visit McDonald’s, I would say to my children just watch and marvel at a bunch of simplistic systems which make each Maccas franchise hum.
My children must’ve heard this so often that it’s embedded in their holiday memories.
What a childhood!
The fact is every business is just a bunch of systems leading to an outcome.
When it’s done well, it’s literally poetry in motion.
There is no reason why a physiotherapy or allied health clinic can’t have a stack of well-developed, tried, tested and proven systems for improving sustainability and clinical outcomes.
So, the next time you go to Maccas, to use the toilet or grab a burger just watch and marvel at what they have done, and while you’re banging on to your children about magnificent systems think about how you can improve the systems within your own business.
Who knows, maybe you’ll come away from Maccas with more than just a hamburger.
