Minimum hourly rates for the provision of physiotherapy services

Last week I presented at the Ignite pre-conference business day in Brisbane. My topic was: Can Linda Evangelista teach physiotherapists anything?

It was essentially in relation to her famous quote, “I wouldn’t get out of bed for less than $10,000” and it was implying that, as physiotherapists, we could learn something about valuing what we do.

As always, I enjoy the presentation. One of the quotes in the presentation was from two physiotherapists who recently decided to leave the profession to join the fire brigade. When I asked them why they were leaving their response was, “I love being a physiotherapist, I just can’t afford to be one”.

Makes you think…

Apart from examining the white paper on the Value of Physiotherapy in Australia in October 2020 and also examining the Physiotherapy National Service Descriptors from 2018, I presented to the group the preliminary draft proposal for the minimum hourly rates for the provision of physiotherapy services.

Here’s where I need your help.

Please see below for the last two slides of the presentation (which are amended) and consider the rates per hour and the estimated billings.

I am really interested in your views.

Do you believe the minimum hourly rates in relation to experience, titling, and specialisation are in the right ballpark?

Are they too high, too low, or about just right?

The draft proposal that you see has in principle support from the National Physiotherapy business group. But, here is when you can give back to the profession.

I need your input. Our profession needs your input.

Please email me your honest feedback on the above and I’ll keep you informed of the process in which the APA is going through.

As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or queries or if you would like to discuss ideas further either via my mobile (0439347339) or email (antony@antonyhirstconsulting.com.au).

Kind Regards,
Antony Hirst
